Description

These Baked Maple Glazed Donuts are soft, cakey, and packed with warm cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. They are baked instead of fried, making them a healthier alternative to traditional donuts. Topped with a rich maple glaze, these homemade donuts are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup milk (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt or sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Maple Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • ¼ teaspoon maple extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a donut pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix melted butter, egg, brown sugar, milk, Greek yogurt, and vanilla.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each mold halfway full.
  • Bake for 10-11 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let them cool.
  • For the glaze, melt butter and maple syrup over low heat, then whisk in powdered sugar and maple extract.
  • Dip each cooled donut into the glaze and let it set before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter, or the donuts may become dense.
  • Double dip the glaze for a thicker, more decadent topping.
  • Store unglazed donuts for up to 3 months in the freezer.
