24 oz marinara sauce

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ricotta cheese
 - 
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
 - 
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
 - 
2 tablespoons olive oil
 - 
1 teaspoon dried oregano
 - 
1 teaspoon dried basil
 - 
Salt and pepper to taste
 - 
(Optional) 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cup bell peppers, 1 cup mushrooms, 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
 
Instructions
- Prepare the Pasta: Cook ziti until al dente, drain, and set aside.
 - Cook the Meat Sauce: Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Add marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
 - Mix Cheese: Combine ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, and 1/4 cup Parmesan in a bowl.
 - Combine & Layer: Mix pasta with meat sauce. Layer half in a greased baking dish, add cheese mixture, and repeat. Top with remaining cheeses.
 - Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
 - Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
