Description

This baked ziti with ground beef and ricotta is a comforting, cheesy casserole layered with savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Perfect for weeknight dinners or family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ziti pasta

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean)

  • 24 oz marinara sauce

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese

  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • (Optional) 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cup bell peppers, 1 cup mushrooms, 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes


Instructions

  • Prepare the Pasta: Cook ziti until al dente, drain, and set aside.
  • Cook the Meat Sauce: Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Add marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Mix Cheese: Combine ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, and 1/4 cup Parmesan in a bowl.
  • Combine & Layer: Mix pasta with meat sauce. Layer half in a greased baking dish, add cheese mixture, and repeat. Top with remaining cheeses.
  • Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
