Description

These Banana Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful twist on classic cinnamon rolls. Featuring a banana-infused dough, cinnamon-sugar filling with fresh banana slices, and a creamy cream cheese icing, this recipe is perfect for a sweet breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • ¾ cup milk (warmed to 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup mashed bananas (about 2 medium bananas)
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (cubed and at room temperature)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)

For the Cinnamon Filling:

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium bananas (sliced thinly)

For the Cream Cheese Icing:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast by sprinkling it over the warmed milk and letting it sit for 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cubed butter and mix until crumbly.
  • Add the yeast mixture, mashed bananas, and egg to the dry ingredients. Knead the dough until smooth and soft. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Make the filling by beating butter until smooth and mixing in brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll out the dough into a ¼-inch thick rectangle. Spread the filling evenly, then layer with banana slices. Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 even pieces.
  • Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch pan. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F.
  • Bake the rolls for 28-33 minutes or until golden brown.
  • For the icing, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then mix in powdered sugar and vanilla. Spread over warm rolls.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas for better flavor and natural sweetness.
  • Ensure milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Letting the dough rise properly ensures fluffy rolls.
