Ingredients

Scale
  • 1214 cups French bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 12 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and add cubed French bread.
  • Make the Custard: Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Pour over the bread.
  • Add the Berries: Scatter strawberries and blueberries evenly on top.
  • Refrigerate Overnight: Cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35-50 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve: Let cool slightly, then top with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Notes

  • For best results, use slightly stale bread like French, brioche, or sourdough.
  • Want extra crunch? Add a brown sugar streusel topping before baking.
  • Make it dairy-free by using almond or oat milk.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
