Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1011 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 475°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking soda.
  • In a separate bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually stir in the dry ingredients. Avoid overmixing.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and optional nuts.
  • Scoop dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 6-7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For thicker cookies, refrigerate dough for 15 minutes before baking.
  • Slightly underbaking keeps the centers extra soft.
  • Swap chocolate chips for chunks or mix dark and milk chocolate.
