Description

A creamy, cheesy, and comforting casserole made with thinly sliced potatoes, savory cooked ham, and rich cheddar sauce—perfect for a cozy dinner.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups thinly sliced potatoes

  • 1 cup cooked diced ham (halal)

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 1 1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp white pepper

  • Optional: chopped parsley, paprika


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 1-quart baking dish.

  • Make the cheese sauce: melt butter, whisk in flour, cook 1 min. Gradually add milk and stir until thick. Add cheese, salt, and pepper.

  • Layer potatoes, ham, onion, and cheese sauce in baking dish.

  • Repeat layers and top with remaining sauce.

  • Bake uncovered 35–40 mins until bubbly and golden. Rest 5 mins before serving.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated cheese for best melting.
  • Slice potatoes evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
  • Can be assembled ahead and refrigerated.
