Ingredients

  • 12 oz penne pasta

  • 1 cup frozen or fresh peas

  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped

  • 6 slices turkey bacon or beef bacon, chopped

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino Romano (optional)

  • 1/4 cup reserved pasta water


Instructions

  • Boil pasta in salted water.

  • Add peas 3 minutes before pasta is done.

  • Sauté chopped bacon until crispy, set aside.

  • In same skillet, cook onions in bacon fat.

  • Add cream and simmer.

  • Combine drained pasta, peas, and bacon in sauce.

  • Stir in cheese and pasta water as needed.

  • Season and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use turkey or beef bacon for a halal version.
  • Substitute cream with a mix of milk and cream cheese.
  • Fresh parsley or basil makes a great garnish.
  • Avoid overcooking pasta; it should be al dente.
