Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 pound ground chicken
    • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
    • ½ cup finely chopped red onion
    • 1 egg
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • Kosher salt, to taste
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
    • 1 tablespoon garam masala
    • One 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
    • ½ cup finely chopped red onion
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 small chili (optional, for heat)
    • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • ½ cup heavy cream (stirred in at the end)
  • For Garnish:
    • Fresh cilantro leaves
    • Whole-milk Greek yogurt

Instructions

  • Make the Meatballs: In a bowl, mix ground chicken, onion, cilantro, egg, garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper. Form into 2-inch meatballs.
  • Prepare the Sauce: In the slow cooker, combine crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, butter, ginger, garam masala, and chili. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cook the Meatballs: Gently place the meatballs into the sauce. Cook on low for 6 hours.
  • Finish the Sauce: Stir in heavy cream 10 minutes before serving for a creamy finish.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and Greek yogurt. Pair with rice, naan, or veggies.

Notes

  • Use coconut milk instead of heavy cream for a dairy-free version.
  • Substitute turkey or lean beef for chicken if desired.
  • Serve as an appetizer by skewering meatballs with toothpicks.
