Description

These homemade soft pretzel bites are golden brown, chewy, and incredibly delicious. Paired with a creamy vegan cheese sauce, they make the perfect snack, appetizer, or party treat. Easy to make and dairy-free!


Ingredients

For the Pretzel Bites:
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons fast-rise yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ cup melted vegan butter
  • 4 to 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tablespoon salt
For Boiling:
  • 3 quarts water
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
For Topping:
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter or neutral oil
  • Coarse pretzel salt
For Vegan Cheese Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk
  • ¾ cup shredded vegan cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • A pinch of paprika (optional)

Instructions

  • Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add melted butter, flour, and salt. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Let rise for 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Shape dough into ropes, cut into bite-sized pieces.
  • Boil water, add baking soda. Boil pretzels for 1 minute. Transfer to a baking sheet.
  • Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with salt. Bake for 10–12 minutes.
  • For cheese sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour, add plant-based milk, cheese, broth, and seasonings. Stir until smooth. Serve warm with pretzels.

Notes

  • For extra soft pretzels, cover them with a towel after baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze baked pretzel bites for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F.
  • Add cinnamon sugar for a sweet version!
