- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- A few drops of red food coloring (optional)
- ½ cup fresh strawberries, diced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp cold water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the filling: Mix cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and optional food coloring until smooth.
- Cut the pastry: Roll out puff pastry and use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out 7-9 hearts. Lightly score a smaller heart inside each.
- Assemble: Spread cream cheese filling inside the scored border and top with diced strawberries.
- Egg wash: Whisk egg and water, then brush the pastry edges.
- Bake for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool & serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen strawberries (if frozen, pat dry before using).
- Substitute strawberries with raspberries, blueberries, or jam for variety.
- Best enjoyed the same day but can be stored for up to 2 days.
